For anyone who doesn’t just occasionally watch horror, but actively seeks it out. For the jump-scare connoisseur with a bloody Letterboxd. Or for anyone writing, filming or planning something themselves: this evening is for you. At Genrelab at Natlab, local filmmakers show what a genre means to them. They screen their own short film alongside the feature that inspired them. This first edition features Hidde de Visser and Nicholas Kaiden with Dwaalspoor (2025), about a routine night call at a remote property that turns out to be anything but routine. It is followed by The Skeleton Key (2005), a brooding mystery set in a Louisiana mansion where nothing is quite what it seems. Between the films, we talk with the makers, and afterwards there is time to stay for a drink. There’s a good chance you’ll meet someone who loves the genre as much as you do — or someone you might make your next film with. Programme: 18:45 doors · 19:00 Dwaalspoor · 19:30 talk with Hidde de Visser and Nicholas Kaiden · 20:00 The Skeleton Key (until approx. 22:30). Masterclass Licht voor Regisseurs met gaffer Rik Vaessen

Light is a storytelling tool. And as a director, you don’t need to know how to build lamps to take control of it. On Friday 30 October, you’ll spend a full day working with Brabant-based gaffer Rik Vaessen in and around Natlab. You’ll learn how to translate a lighting idea from paper to set, and which questions to ask your DOP and gaffer. Beforehand, you’ll receive a scene. At home, you prepare a shot breakdown for your section and a moodboard focused on light. On the day, you discuss these, scout the location, and then light and shoot the scene in two directing teams. No DOP or camera experience is required. Programme: 10:00 introduction and discussion · 12:00 lunch · 12:30 recce in and around Natlab · 14:30 light and shoot the scene · 17:30 wrap-up and reflection · 18:00 drinks. There are six places. Participation costs €80. It is an intensive masterclass using professional equipment and guidance, but the organisers want it to remain accessible to Brabant filmmakers; if the price is the reason you cannot join, contact BROET. Skate videos have been the way skaters share their work for decades. At SKAFI FEST, a new skateboard film festival, they get the big-screen treatment right in the middle of Area51 Skatepark. On Sunday 29 November, three new skate films by makers from Brabant premiere, followed by Q&As. Fresh Meet Skate showcases short skate films by makers from the region, selected by a professional jury. Classics then brings influential skateboard films such as Lords of Dogtown to the big screen in the setting they belong in: a skatepark. On Friday 27 November, the Workshop & Challenge takes place: a pressure-cooker session at Area51 in which filmmakers and skaters go from idea to edited skate film in a single day. Tickets: day ticket approx. €10 (final prices and times via BROET). A festival by BROET film platform and Area51 Skatepark, with Natlab as technical partner.

Save the date for ECC Creator Connect: an accessible, informal brainstorming, social and networking evening for photographers, models, videographers, stylists, designers, musicians and other creatives. The focus is not on pitching or performing, but on meeting new people, exchanging ideas and creating space for potential collaborations. ECC facilitates the introduction; participation in conversations or collaborations is always voluntary. We are looking for an active initiative taker to organise this event. If no one takes on the role, the event will be cancelled. The time, venue and programme may still change.

‘Anchored, Drifting’ is a wind-inspired workshop that uses KITE as both a powerful symbol and a playful medium for storytelling for expats living in Eindhoven. The workshop is designed to explore the layered experience of diaspora among those who moved to the Netherlands from afar and are navigating life here. A kite is always in-between: rooted, yet unrooted, tethered to a place, but drifting somewhere else. Together, we’ll reflect on migration not as a story of where we come from, but as an ongoing, fluid process of where we are right now and the uncertainties, possibilities, and transformations that come with it.

BioArtFashion is een serie sculpturale draagbare kunstwerken, gemaakt van zeewier, paddenstoelen, korstmos en andere organische restmaterialen. Geïnspireerd door onzichtbare ondergrondse, interne (schimmel)netwerken onderzoekt modekunstenaar Agnes van Dijk de verbindingen tussen mens, plant en ecosysteem. Net als algen en schimmels ondergronds met elkaar verbonden zijn, laat het project zien hoe afhankelijk mens, dier en natuur van elkaar zijn. In een tijdperk gedomineerd door overconsumptie, de drang naar maakbaarheid en uitputting van ecosystemen, biedt BioArtFashion een radicaal alternatief. De werken vormen een krachtig statement tegen de wegwerpcultuur van onze samenleving en laten zien hoe schoonheid kan ontstaan uit materialen die normaal als afval of vergankelijk worden gezien. Met een zelfontwikkelde, gifvrije conserveringstechniek transformeert Van Dijk biomateriaal tot duurzame draagbare creaties. De materialen blijven flexibel, huidvriendelijk en herstelbaar, terwijl hun organische karakter zichtbaar blijft. Elk werk ontstaat vanuit een intensief proces van verzamelen, conserveren en handmatig experimenteren.
